MADIKERI: Kodagu District Congress president Veena Achaiah on Monday demanded that Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy resign in the wake of the bribery charge against him. District Congress Committee members took out a procession in the city and submitted a memorandum to Deputy Commissioner Subdoh Yadav. Corruption was rampant in the Kumaraswamy Government, Ms. Achaiah alleged. The coalition Government had ignored development works in the State. The Janata Dal (Secular) had joined hands with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ignoring its secular principles, she said. She accused Mr. Kumaraswamy of failing to protect the interests of the State. The Government had ignored the services of honest officials. It had not provided relief to the people affected by rain in the district, she said. The Congress unit urged Governor T.N. Chaturvedi to take steps for the dismissal of the coalition Government if Mr. Kumaraswamy did not resign owning moral responsibility. Former Minister Suma Vasant, Kodagu Congress spokesman T.P. Ramesh, Kodagu unit secretary V.P. Suresh, zilla panchayat members Karun Kalaiah, Deerghakeshi Shivanna, and Abdul Latif, former president of the CMC Kaveramma Somanna, and vice-president T.M. Aiyappa were present.
