TIRUPATI: The children did not just learn the art of wielding the brush, but were even fortunate enough to get exposed to the nuances and finer aspects of the art. At the day-long workshop on drawing and painting conducted by Tirupati Film Society here on Sunday, as many as 500 students learnt the fundas of painting in the traditional way. An artist Singampally Satyanarayana explained to them the media available such as Indian ink, watercolour, oil paint, crayon, pencil and the types of canvas. The children were explained about giving vent to emotions from the works of ace artists like Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo, Picasso and the likes of Raja Ravi Varma, S.N. Pandit, Ravi Kumar, R.K. Laxman and J.P. Singhal from the Indian wizards. Telugu painters like Bapu, Adivi Bapiraju, Damerla Rama Rao, media cartoonists like Sridhar, Pinisetti, Akbar and also Ramaiah, an expert in folk painting, were introduced to the students to show them that drawing meant much more than scribbling to while away leisure time.
Lecture on animation
The interesting part of the workshop, perhaps, was the lecture on `animation' and the funny events in the life of Walt Disney that led to the birth of Mickey Mouse, the world's most popular cartoon character till now. Society president U.V.S.R. Anjaneyulu explained that two similar workshops would be conducted and all the 1,500 students further trained on serious drawing.
