CHENNAI: The Directorate of Art and Culture, through the Tamil Nadu Eyal Isai Nataka Manram, will pay young, talented artists to perform cultural programmes through voluntary cultural institutions. This initiative is being made keeping in mind individuals giving performances such as Bharatanatyam, vocal music, kathakalakshepam, and instrumental (nagaswaram, veena, violin, guitar, flute, jalatharangam, gottuvadhyam, mandolin, saxophone and clarinet) music performances. According to the scheme, a troupe of vocal music artists with flute and jalatharangam as accompaniments will receive Rs.2,800, a troupe performing kathakalashepam, or giving nagaswaram, clarinet and guitar recitals will receive Rs.4,000; those performing solo on the violin, veena or gottuvadhyam will get Rs.1,950, while mandolin and saxophone artists will get Rs.3,000; Bharatnatyam artists will be paid Rs.5,000.
Conditions apply
Musicians should be between 16 and 30 years, while Bharatnatyam exponents should be between 15 and 30 years. Artists can obtain the application, issued free with the prospectus, through post by sending a self-addressed envelope with a Rs.5 stamp affixed on it to The Member Secretary, Tamil Nadu Eyal Isai Nataka Manram, `Ponni,' 31, P.S.
