A lorry load of arrack seized

CHENNAI: The Chennai city Prohibition Enforcement Wing (PEW) police seized a private lorry laden with arrack transported from Karnataka here in Puzhal police station limits on Monday. On a tip-off, a team of police personnel intercepted the vehicle near Sakti Nagar in Puzhal.

A search revealed that there were 90,000 sachets of arrack stashed in 177 gunny bags.

The driver was identified as K. Narayanan (43) of Padi. In the preliminary investigations, the accused had confessed to have procured each sachet at Rs 2 in Karnataka and planned to sell it at Rs. 10 in the city.

Puzhal police are investigating.
