Court refuses to nullify admissions

Special Correspondent

CHENNAI: The Madras High Court on Monday declined to nullify admissions to 207 Master of Dental Surgery (MDS) seats in eight institutions in the State.

It also turned down a plea by students to order a fresh common entrance test (CET) for filling the seats.

A Division Bench, comprising Justice P. Sathasivam and Justice V. Dhanapalan, ruled that the self-financing colleges and deemed universities had furnished relevant materials "to show that the entrance examinations were conducted in line with the guidelines of the Supreme Court. "The process of selection in these institutions was "transparent and fair," it said. Selection was based on rules framed by them and duly approved by the Centre and the UGC. "Except general statements, the petitioners have not given any specific instance of violation of the directions of the Supreme Court or the rules of the respective universities."
