Time for elections, felicitation

BANGALORE: Sudarshan Vidya Mandir, Jayanagar, held its election for the student council for 2006-07. The election was held through secret ballot, just to give the students a feel of the democratic process.

The investiture ceremony was held recently and principal Hemaa Narayan administered oath to the newly elected office-bearers. Flags and badges were handed over to the captains and vice-captains for State syllabus and ICSE streams.

School captain Ganesh and vice-captain Deepashree pledged to take the school to greater heights. The principal stressed on the teamwork and advised the leaders not only to lead the team, but also to work and walk with the team by being a "face" of the group.

Felicitation

Ryan International School, Kunadalahalli, organised a felicitation function on Thursday. Meritorious students of 2005-06 batch and teachers were honoured at the function. The programme began with a welcome song by the school orchestra.

It was a memorable day for toppers of board examinations and when they shared their experiences, they did not forget to recognise the role played by their teachers and management in their success.

Aditya Gururaj, with 84 per cent marks, was the topper in ISC (science), while Akash Kedia with 90.4 per cent and Soumya Aji with 93.3 per cent emerged toppers in Commerce and ICSE stream respectively.

Director Grace Pinto congratulated the meritorious students and lauded the efforts of teachers for the excellent results. "We believe that grooming every child entrusted to our care, chiselling his or her talents and empowering him or her academically is important. At Ryan, emphasis is on the cultivation of all three dimensions of the mind, body and spirit and not on mere cramming for examination purposes," she said. N. Rajashekar, Regional General Manager, The Hindu , Bangalore, spoke on the importance of inculcating values in the minds of children.

St. Peter's Day

The Bishop Cotton Schools (girls and boys) celebrated St. Peterstide (Founders' Day) from June 28 to 30. The St. Peter's Day commemoration service, which marked the beginning of the celebrations, was held at Bishop Cotton Girls' School on June 28, followed by St. Peter's Day service at Bishop Cotton Boys' School on June 29. S. Vasanthakumar, Bishop, Karnataka Central Diocese, gave a special message about St. Peter. A large number of old Cottonians, and former members of the staff attended the service.

Induction

Sri Manjunatha Vidyalaya, Vijayanagar, welcomed its new students on Saturday. Over 200 students joined the school this year.

Corporator H. Ravindra said teachers and parents had the responsibility of moulding children. K.N. Rao, retired teacher of the school, read the annual report. He said the school was started 33 years ago for students from poor families. Rohini and Mohankumar, students, spoke. Later, a cultural programme was organised.
