THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A crucial two-day meeting of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI-M] State secretariat began here on Monday to discuss, among other things, major inner party issues. The Secretariat meeting is in preparation for a three-day party State committee meeting slated to begin on Thursday. The Secretariat meeting is attended by a contingent of CPI(M) central leaders, including general secretary Prakash Karat and Polit Bureau members Sitaram Yechury, R. Umadas and S. Ramachandran Pillai. The meeting is understood to have taken up the reports of the inquiry commission constituted after the last State conference. Indications are that the Pinarayi faction in the party is pushing for disciplinary action against roughly half-a-dozen Achuthanandan loyalists. The commission report relating to alleged factionalism in certain districts during the run up to the Malappuram conference is also being taken up.
