Staff Reporter

Special programme devised for drivers who were involved in major accidents

HYDERABAD: In a bid to contain the recurrence of road accidents involving city buses, the city region of the APSRTC has proposed to offer special cash rewards for drivers, who maintain accident-free record.

Speaking to reporters here on Monday, City Regional Manager C. Panduranga Murthy said a special training programme had been designed for drivers for improving safety.

Line observation

Under the programme, 307 drivers involved in fatal and major accidents during January 2005 to June 2006 will undergo special training at Zonal Staff Training College in Hakimpet.

Special emphasis would be laid on imparting awareness on road safety to all the 5,460 drivers of the region at depot level for a week, followed by observation on their driving habits every three months, said Mr. Murthy.
