New Delhi: Resident's Welfare Associations across the Capital on Monday welcomed the Supreme Court's remarks terming as "null and void" the controversial law declaring a year's moratorium on the sealing and demolition drive in the Capital. "We absolutely welcome the remarks of the Supreme Court. They have just echoed our sentiments. We have been saying since April that the intention in passing the law has been mala fide," Sanjay Kaul of People's Action said. Another RAW member Pankaj Agarwal, who was present at the court, said, ``by introducing this law, the government had tried to protect the violators. We welcome the remarks. I feel they will lead to a controversy regarding the powers of the judiciary and the legislature." Maintaining, however, that they are not against the trading community, Aggrawal said, the issue is the "peace and tranquillity" of the residential areas which is hampered by the commercial establishments. Pravin Khandelwal, representative of the traders said, "in view of the court's observations today, we met Union Urban Development Minister Jaipal Reddy and urged him to defend the law in the court."
