BANGALORE: Age does not deter them from making a positive contribution to society. And more and more aged persons are joining hands to make their surroundings better. Aptly named, Some Old Faces Association (SOFA) on Haralur Road off Sarjapur Road is educating people about many things. "Live life with a purpose and serve as many as you can," is the motto of the organisation, says K.S. Natarajan, founder of SOFA. When life is going on a fast lane, members of this association sit back to find solutions for social issues. It has come a long way since it was shifted to Bangalore from Madurai in 1997. The foundation, which started with the support of 12 members, now has more than 150 members. The association has conducted several free health check-ups for the elderly and children, planted saplings and distributed pamphlets for social causes. SOFA even helps people in making safe investments. "We are working towards solving issues on a daily basis to make people's life better," says SOFA member Raju. Naturally, SOFA members are mostly senior citizens but their enthusiasm for serving society is fresh. In every meeting, which is held in a member's house, new issues are discussed and solutions are identified and an action plan prepared. Then a group of members implement the plan.
