A unique protest

Special Correspondent

SHIMOGA: It is a unique way of expressing grievances: the people of the villages surrounding Hosnagar have raised paddy plantations in the middle of roads at several places in protest against the deteriorating road conditions.

The villagers complain that the authorities concerned have not responded to their repeated requests for the last seven to eight years to take up repairs of important roads, including the State Highway and the district main road.

They say that the most of the roads have become so slushy that it is almost impossible to drive on them.

They say that the Nagar-Hulikal Road, which connects the State Highway, is also no exception as it has turned into a motorists' nightmare. It has large potholes holding a mirror to the poor quality of works.
