Children's Science Park inaugurated at Mahatma Phule Garden

A WALK IN THE RAIN: Governor T.N. Chaturvedi going around the children's science park in Belgaum on Tuesday.

Belgaum: Governor T.N. Chaturvedi called upon the society to value "dignity" of individuals for uplifting the morale of the individual and society.

The Governor was addressing a small gathering of schoolchildren and government officials after inaugurating the Children's Science Park at the Mahatma Phule Garden in the city on Tuesday. He stressed on upholding the dignity of individuals, which was central to Indian spirituality and need of the hour. The Science Park had been built by Stree Shakti wing of Lions Club of Belgaum and consisted of 10 different scientific themes.

Land allotment

The Belgaum City Corporation provided the land within the Phule Garden at Tilakwadi and philanthropist institutions and individuals contributed to implement the project.

Complimenting the club and the corporation, Mr. Chaturvedi described the development as an "imaginative step".

He observed that no effort of such kind was possible unless and until the citizens took interest and came forward to make common cause for the good of society.

"It is not just the question of beauty, but such landmarks symbolised collective consciousness of the city and concern they had for the children, who represented the future of the country," he said.

The park would enable the children to learn while playing. Such activities led to innovativeness in children as against passive agents of learning and knowledge systems. It would help create a better scientific temper and curiosity among the young minds, he said.

The Governor facilitated donors, including industrialist Prasanna V. Ghotage, KLES Chairman Prabhakar Kore, Belgaum MP Suresh Angadi and club president Supriya Nerli.

Later, the Governor inaugurated Dr. R.D. Ranade College of Yogic Sciences and Research (affiliated to Karnatak University) in the presence of Sangamdev Samiji of Sri Shivayogi Math, Examba.
