Felix wins fifth straight women's 200m race

MADRID: World champion and Olympic silver medallist Allyson Felix won her fifth straight 200metre race in the Madrid meeting on Monday.

The 20-year-old American crossed the line in 22.73 seconds, just five-hundredths of a second faster than her only other 200m race in Doha in May.

Cydonie Mothersill of the Cayman Islands was second in the 200 in 22.81s, and Muna Lee of Jamaica third in 23.16s.

World indoor champ Wilfred Bungei of Kenya won the 800m in Madrid for the second year in a row, and in the second-best time this year of 1:43.69s.

Countryman Shadrack Korir won the 1,500 in 3:31.97s.

The United States swept the shot put, led by Christian Cantwell with 21.79m, more than half a metre less than his winning effort at the British Grand Prix a month ago. World indoor champ Reese Hoffa was second with a toss of 21.45, and Daniel Taylor third.

Sandra Glover also led an American 1-2-3 in the women's 400m hurdles.

Other winners included Jamaica's Michael Blackwood in the men's 400m, Cuba's Robles Dayron in the 110m hurdles, Panama's Bayano Kamani in the 400m hurdles, Portugal's Camaro Tavares in the women's 800m, and Australia's Sarah Jamieson in the 1,500m. — AP
