HASSAN: With Hemavathy reservoir brimming, the dam authorities have started releasing 27,800 cusecs of water through six crest gates. Water gushing out of gates is a treat to watch and people from far and near are visiting Hemavathi dam at Gorur braving incessant rain. Water level in Hemavathy reservoir now stands at 2,921.20 ft as against its maximum level of 2.922 ft, according to sources in the Dam division. Water level was 2,895.40 ft during the corresponding period last year. At present, storage is 36.51 tmcft against the total capacity of 37.10 tmcft. Inflow was 30,000 cusecs on Tuesday morning and outflow was 33,950 cusecs. Authorities are releasing 3,200 cusecs into Hemavathy Left Bank Canal, 350 cusecs into the Right Bank Canal and 600 cusecs into the Right Upper Canal. With authorities releasing 2,000 cusecs of water into the river, agricultural fields in Kattebelaguli, Vaddarapalya, Maragodanahalli, and Paduvalahippe villages of Holenarsipur taluk, which are on the banks of the river, have been inundated and senior officials visited the affected villages. They felt the need to shift villagers of Kattebelaguli, sources said.
