Two killed in accident near Mavoor

Three of the 40 injured are in a serious condition



GRUESOME TRAGEDY: The remains of a goods carrier involved in an accident at Cheruppa in Kozhikode on Tuesday.

KOZHIKODE: Two persons were killed when a goods carrier and a private bus hit each other at Cheruppa, near Mavoor, here on Tuesday morning. The dead have been identified as Ali, 42, and Appad Moyin, 40. The condition of three persons who were injured in the accident is reported to be serious. Forty people were injured in the accident.

The incident occurred around 7.55 a.m. on Ootty Road, near Cheruppa Bank. The goods carrier was carrying fish from the market in Kozhikode to Vazhakkad. Five persons were travelling in the vehicle. Two persons who were perched on top of the vehicle were thrown off it.

Those seriously injured and undergoing treatment at the intensive care unit of the Medical College Hospital are Mohammed, 48, Hamza, 41, and Veeran, 65. It was with some difficulty that the passengers inside the goods carrier could be extricated. The driver of the vehicle escaped with injuries.
