COMMON CAUSE: Workers of the CPI and CPI(M) staging a demonstration in front of the Deputy Commissioner's office in Gulbarga on Tuesday demanding streamlining of the public distribution system.
GULBARGA: The Left parties on Tuesday jointly protested against the increase in prices of essential commodities and urged the Union Government to streamline the functioning of the public distribution system (PDS). Workers of the CPI(M) and the CPI, led by State secretariat member of the CPI(M) Maruti Manpade and joint secretary of the District unit of the CPI Moula Mulla, came in a rally to the Deputy Commissioner's office from the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Chowk to present a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner highlighting the problems faced by common people owing to rise in prices. The memorandum demanded that the Union Government take over the distribution of foodgrains and pulses till the price situation improved. The Government should also strengthen the PDS to counter the sudden increase in prices of essential commodities in the retail market. All essential commodities should be made available at affordable prices through PDS outlets.
Kerosene distribution
Distribution of kerosene for the poor in ration shops should be streamlined. It should be ensured that all cardholders were supplied kerosene in time.
