KOLLAM: K.G. Ravi, general secretary, Kerala Pradesh Karshaka Congress, has alleged that Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan has betrayed farmers with his statement that under the existing situation, their debts cannot be written off. In a statement here, Mr. Ravi said that writing off the farmers' loans was the main promise made in the election manifesto of the Left Democratic Front (LDF). He alleged that the LDF had raised a hue and cry over the suicides by farmers during the United Democratic Front rule. But now, it was trying to pass the buck to the Centre. He said the Government's promise of Rs.1 lakh relief to the dependents of the farmers who had committed suicide is yet to be paid.
