Office-bearers elected

KOLLAM: Pathiyil Madhavan Pillai and V. Sasidharan Nair have been elected president and general secretary respectively of the Kollam city Confederation of Residents' Associations. The other office-bearers are K.V. Soman and Palazhi Bhaskaran, vice-presidents, K.R. Yeshodharan, treasurer, and K.S. Shibu, secretary. Hartal observed

ALAPPUZHA: Shops and business establishments remained closed in Kayamkulam municipality and nearby areas from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Tuesday following a hartal called by the Alappuzha District Congress Committee. The hartal was called to protest against the attack on an excise party that raided an illegal spirit godown at Kareelakkulamgara on Sunday, allegedly by followers of the CPI (M). — Staff Reporter

One killed in accident

THRISSUR: A 28-year old man was killed when the motorcycle on which he was travelling hit a car at Cheruthuruthy, near Vadakkanchery, on Tuesday morning. The police identified the deceased as K M Aboobacker of Vettikkattiri. — Staff Reporter

Admit cards for SSC examination

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) has despatched admission certificates for the Combined Matric-Level (Preliminary) Examination, 2006, to be held on July 30. Owing to administrative reasons, Pathanamthitta centre has been merged with Kottayam. Candidates who have opted for Pathanamthitta centre have been allotted Kottayam centre. Those candidates who do not receive the admission certificates by July 20 should contact the Regional Office of the Commission at First Floor, `E' Wing, Kendriya Sadan, Koramangala, Bangalore-560034 (Ph: 080-25521071/25527342, Fax: 080-25520653). — Staff Reporter
