BANGALORE: Former Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has resigned his membership of the Legislative Assembly ending his 11-month long stand-off with president of Janata Dal (Secular) H.D. Deve Gowda. He has announced his decision to join the Congress. Mr. Siddaramaiah was elected to the 12th Legislative Assembly in May 2004 from his Chamundeshwari constituency, part of which is in Mysore city. He had been dropped from the previous coalition Government (Congess-Janata Dal-S).Mr. Siddaramaiah submitted his resignation to Speaker Krishna after his three-day dharna along with the Congress members ended in the morning. They were protesting against the Speaker's ruling rejecting his request to make a statement in the House explaining as to what led to his resignation.
