Special Correspondent
Tirupati: The BJP and its frontal units on Tuesday demanded the resignation of Endowments Minister R.C.Diwakar Reddy owning responsibility for a "manifold increase" in the activities of evangelists in the State after the Congress Government assumed power two years ago. State general secretary of BJYM G. Bhanuprakash Reddy and BJP leaders at a press conference here took serious exception to the TTD Executive Officer A.P.V.N. Sarma attributing motives to the report submitted by the fact-finding committee constituted to probe into the alleged proselytisation being carried out by Christian missionaries on and off the Tirumala hills. The leaders asserted that the committee had prepared the report after analysing inputs gathered from ten persons who deposed before it during its two-day sitting at Tirupati-Tirumala. It had also viewed video-tapes of news channels which telecast the evangelical activities.
TTD resolution
They also referred to Mr. Sarma's statement at a media conference on Monday that the TTD's Specified Authority had adopted a resolution recently requesting the State Government to further widen the territory of the temple/TTD from its present 10.33 sq miles to prevent the scope for possible evangelism in sensitive areas on the hills. Mr. Reddy demanded that Chief Minister Y.S.Rajasekhara Reddy accept the TTD resolution and isue a G.O. forthwith to set at rest the controversy.
