Rally, the `official tool' for creating awareness

Whenever the officials are asked to create awareness among the public about a particular burning issue, they immediately organise a rally of the students or members of self-help groups through various important streets and arterial thoroughfares to achieve their objective.

Since chikungunya has been spreading rapidly in the southern districts for the past several weeks, the Department of Public Health decided to create awareness among the public and customarily, a rally was organised at Palayamkottai on Tuesday.

But it was not clear whether the rally that covered just 300 metres between VOC Stadium and Sarah Tucker Girls' Higher Secondary School near Palayamkottai bus-stand did create awareness among the public.

Shortest rally

The reason given by the officials for organising `shortest rally': "To avoid traffic snarls at Palayamkottai".
