SHRC: Government told to produce files

Staff Reporter

High CourtRound-up

Kochi: A Division Bench of the High Court on Tuesday directed the State Government to produce the files relating to the proceedings of the committee which selected the two State Human Right Commission (SHRC) members V.P. Mohankumar and S. Varghese. The Bench comprising Chief Justice V.K. Bali and

Justice M. Ramachandran while issuing the directive also reserved its judgment on the writ petitions challenging the appointment of V.P. Mohankumar, retired High Court Judge, as Chairperson of the Commission.

Raja files petition

Ravathi Nal P. Ramavarma Raja, Valiya Raja of Pandalam Palace, and the Pandalam Kottara Nirvahaka Sangham have filed a writ petition seeking a direction to the Travancore Devaswom Board not to interfere with the rights of Pandalam Raja in the affairs of Sabarimala Lord Ayyappa Temple.

He also sought a direction for constituting an advisory council consisting of tantris and representatives of the Pandalam royal family for the temple.

He pleaded for a directive to the board not to implement the recommendations of the `devaprasanom'.

He said that the `devaprasanom' recommended that the `thiruvabharanam' which was kept at the Pandalam palace be replaced.

The attempts of the Board were to keep at bay the royal family which established the Sabarimala temple and take possession of the `thiruvabharanam'.

Vigilance report produced

The State Government has produced before Justice K.R. Udayabanu the report of a Vigilance probe into the allegations of corruption levelled against Minister for Public Works P.J. Joseph in connection with the alleged misappropriation of funds of the Federation of Indian Floriculturists.

Case stayed

The Judge on Tuesday stayed the proceedings before the Thiruvananthapuram Magistrate court against Krishnan Nair, non-executive Chairman of the Leela Hotels Ltd., for uprooting and removing coconuts trees on the premises of the Halcyon Castle. The order was passed on a petition filed by Mr. Nair.
