Award for Kasaragod district panchayat

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:
Kasaragod district pPanchayat has won the Bharat Retna Rajiv Gandhi award for the best District Panchayat for 2006.
The Rajiv Gandhi Rural Development Foundation has instituted the award.
"Kasaragod district panchayat was the first to publish the citizen's charter. It was also the first panchayat to implement decentralised planning in a systematic and transparent manner. It also formulated a project to rehabilitate the victims of Endosulphan use. The project also covered various sectors including health and education," president M.V. Balakrishnan said.
The award will be presented by Andhra Pradesh Governor Rameswar Thakur at a function to be held at Tirupathi on August 30.
Union Minister for Planning M.V. Rajasekhar will also attend the function, an official release said.
