Maoists kill constable

Staff Reporter

GUNTUR: Suspected Maoists shot dead a police constable near Ravulapuram village of Bollapalli mandal in Guntur district when he was on his way to issue summons to some persons in the village on Tuesday.

According to Guntur Superintendent of Police B. Shivadhar Reddy, the constable, Shaik Sadik, and home guard Gangi Reddy were travelling on a two-wheeler to issue the summons in Palukuru, Vellaturu, Gandiganumala and Ravulapuram. As they were about to reach Ravulapuram, three Maoists waylaid them and fired a round in the air. The panic-stricken duo fell off the vehicle and started to run. The Maoists caught up with Sadik and fired four rounds, but Gangi Reddy escaped to a village and informed authorities about the incident. None of the policemen reached the spot till late in the night. The SP said Sadik could have been killed on the spot.
