Indians have the potential: Garnett

BANGALORE : The NBA All Star player, Kevin Garnett wound up his promotional tour for adidas in India, with a final stop over at Bangalore.

During the visit, the six foot 11 inches Minnesota Timber Wolves player, inaugurated the KG Corner at the main adidias outlet here on Monday night and on Tuesday, he visited the SOS Village on the outskirts of the city and brought some cheer to the under privileged children.

Garnett, hoped that like in the US, basketball would bring about a social change. "I see a larger picture for the game and changing the life of young and under privileged kids like those here. The sport offers an immense opportunity for their growth as better human beings," said Garnett.

"The desire alone will not be enough,'' said Garnet, and flexed his arm, showing a tattoo `blood, sweat and tears,' "you need these too," he added.

He felt Indian youngsters showed huge potential. "I have not seen many of them but from what I have watched, they look good. India should work hard on its grassroots game with strong fundamentals and good coaching, a big nation like yours, could produce good players, like China and Korea have done in recent years," said Garnett.

Garnett said that he immensely enjoyed his tour of India. "I am extremely happy to have tied up for this tour with adidas and I enjoyed my trip and I am sure, the game will grow here with a positive role by adidas," he said.

The high point for Garentt was his trip to Agra on Monday. "It as magnificent, far better than what I had seen in pictures, a nation that built such a wonder, can do wonders in basketball also," said the NBA champion. — Special Correspondent
