Ryots' meet seeks waiver of loans

ONGOLE: A farmers' convention held here on Monday asked the Government to waive loans up to Rs. 25,000 to provide immediate relief to farmers and prevent suicide tendency among them.

Acharya Ranga Kisan Samstha organised the meeting to discuss various issues like suicide its causes and remedies.

Expressing serious concern over multi-national companies taking over the market of seed, fertilizers and pesticides and exploiting farmers, the convention asked the Government to constitute some regulatory mechanism to fix prices of inputs.

It also demanded that the Government agencies like cooperatives and market yards purchase at least 50 per cent of the farm produce. It wanted constitution of price stabilisation fund. It asked the Government to allocate at least 15 per cent in the budget for agriculture. Crop insurance scheme should be strengthened to rescue farmers during natural calamities.
