CHANDIGARH: A three-day mega international IT event, under the ambitious Rs.23,000-crore National e-Governance Plan (NeGP), will begin here on Wednesday with a presentation on "State- level road map and business opportunities under NeGP in the Northern States''. According to an official release, while the e-revolution 2006 curtain-raiser will focus on the IT road map in Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh, the main objective is to fulfil the Government's commitment through the Common Minimum Programme to improve the quality of basic governance by making all Government services and welfare schemes accessible. The interactive session will provide the background to the collective endeavours that the State Governments along with the Software Technology Park of India (STPI) have initiated to create the right kind of environment for the Chandigarh Capital Region to grow in this sector. The main event, "e-Revolution 2006'', will be inaugurated on Thursday by Planning Commission Deputy Chairman Montek Singh Ahluwalia, while Nasscom president Kiran Karnik will deliver the keynote address. Over 300 delegates from all over the country are expected to participate in the event.
