MYSORE: Writer, painter and film-maker Dilip Chitre has regretted the fact that studies in poetry, dance, music and other arts are not regarded as areas that will help children realise their potential. Delivering the 38th Foundation Day Lecture of Central Institute of Indian Languages (CIIL) in Mysore on Tuesday, he emphasised the need for children to cross the "fear barrier" and realise their creative talent. "I am horrified to find that poetry, dance, music and art as they are taught in our schools are not regarded as studies that enable the child to realise the potential of their creativity", he said.
Globalisation
Mr. Chitre said that in an age of globalisation and consumerism, activities such as reading and writing poetry, listening to and creating music, or visiting art galleries were considered soft and weak forms of entertainment.Mr. Chitre is delivering a three-lecture series as part of the 38th Foundation Day of CIIL. Write and film-maker M.S. Sathyu chaired the session on Tuesday, which was the second in the series.
