NEW DELHI: The Special Cell of the Delhi police has arrested a man described as a notorious criminal wanted in seven cases of murder, attempt to murder and kidnapping for ransom. Thirty-five-year-old Santerpal, wanted in connection with the double murder case at Hapur in which Rashtriya Lok Dal party leader Virender Tyagi and Mukesh Tyagi were killed, carried a reward of Rs.2,500 on his head. Following a tip-off that Santerpal was trying to set up base in the Capital to carry out his criminal activities and would come near Gurdwara Majnu Ka Tilla over the weekend, the Special Cell laid a trap and arrested him when he appeared on the scene. A loaded country-made pistol was reportedly recovered from his possession. During interrogation, Santerpal revealed that he started his career in crime at the age of 18 when in 1989 he and his uncle killed a villager over a property dispute. In 1992, Santerpal was arrested under the Arms Act when he was found in possession of an illegal weapon. In 1997, he along with his accomplices killed a villager over a property dispute.
