CHANDIGARH: The Haryana State Cooperative Supply and Marketing Federation (Hafed) proposes to introduce steamed basmati, par boiled basmati, sarbati rice and graded broken rice in the markets of Mumbai and other towns, Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda announced here on Tuesday. Reviewing the working of the State Cooperation Department, he said it was also proposed to set up a modern rice mill at Taraori. This export-oriented unit would be set up at a cost of Rs. 10.50 crores. Other future plans of Hafed include setting up petrol pumps of Indian Oil Corporation at Ladwa, Taraori and Radaur. Also, various IT components would be implemented for e-governance and to provide web-enabled services to farmers and customers. Mr.Hooda said Hafed had floated a special warehousing scheme to enable farmers to sell their produce where the market rate would be more remunerative but they would not have to wait for the funds till actual sale of stocks. Under this scheme, farmers would be financed to the extent of 80 per cent of the cost of their produce at a concessional interest rate of 8 per cent per annum on the basis of warehouse receipt. Hafed has also decided to upgrade the Rohtak Cattle Feed Plant to improve the quality of the feed and make it a brand throughout the country. The total turnover of Hafed last year was Rs. 2,968 crores and it earned a profit of Rs. 79.64 crores. Meanwhile, the Haryana State Cooperative Apex Bank would advance crop loans worth Rs. 6,315 crores to farmers during the current financial year, Mr.Hooda added.
