Haryana plans Renewable Energy Training Institute

Rs.10-crore Institute proposed in Maharishi Dayanand University at Rohtak

CHANDIGARH: The Haryana Government has forwarded a proposal to the Centre to set up a Rs.10-crore Renewable Energy Training Institute in Maharishi Dayanand University at Rohtak for popularising the applications of various non-conventional and renewable sources of energy in the State.

Deputy Chief Minister Chander Mohan said here on Tuesday that the State Government would spend Rs. 4 crores to install solar lanterns, solar home lighting devices and streetlighting systems during the current financial year.

A programme had been initiated in the districts of Yamunanagar, Ambala and Panchkula to install streetlights where 50 per cent population belonged to Scheduled Castes. Work was on to install 100 streetlighting charge controllers, 325 solar streetlighting systems, solar-operated traffic signals, solar road studs, solar blinkers and solar power points in Faridabad, Rohtak, Hisar, Gurgaon and Panchkula districts. Mr.Chander Mohan said a project for electrification of Dhanis of Morni area of Panchkula district had also been launched. The Government has also started demonstration programmes to sponsor the use of organic oils.
