VELLORE: Murugan, sentenced to death in the Rajiv Gandhi assassination case and his wife, Nalini, a life convict in the same case, who were admitted to the Government Vellore Medical College Hospital following deterioration in their health after they went on an indefinite fast, were discharged from the hospital on Tuesday evening. The couple had been on an indefinite fast inside the central prison and the special prison for women here from June 25 and 26 respectively, demanding the grant of a student visa by the Government of India to their daughter, Harithra, studying in Sri Lanka. They gave up their fast on Monday night at the request of Vellore Collector, Dharmendra Pratap Yadav and the Superintendent of Police, M. Ashok Kumar, who met them in the hospital. The two were discharged from the hospital after a team of 12 doctors including four from the Government General Hospital, Chennai examined them and found them fit for discharge. Later, they were sent back to their respective prisons.
