Power cut

CHENNAI: Power supply will be shut down in some parts of Kondithope and Tambaram on Thursday between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. for maintenance work.

Free screening camp

K.K.R. ENT Hospital and Research Institute will conduct a free screening camp on Sunday between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. A press release issued by the Hospital said they would perform 20 operations free of cost from among the screened candidates at an endoscopic sinus surgery workshop that would be organised from August 11 to 13.

Eye camps

More than 430 patients were screened for ailments in two eye camps conducted by Pammal Aravind Sai Eye Hospital at Chekkaadu in Avadi and Indian Bank in Poonthamallee recently. Thirty-three patients screened at the camps also underwent surgery. So far the hospital has performed 73 free surgeries in Poonthamallee district and 142 free surgeries in Kancheepuram district.

BPO workshop

Women Entrepreneurship Promotion Association (WEPA) will conduct a workshop on business process outsourcing (BPO) on July 25 and 26 at Hotel Palmgrove on subjects covering e-publishing, financial services, health care, HR and payroll processing. For further details, contact 22440683 or 9444044068.

Management programme

The South India Regional Council of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India has organised a two-day management development programme on capital markets from July 21. Free health camps

Singhvi Charitable Trust recently organised free health camps at its diagnostic centre on Thiruvottiyur High Road and at Manali Pudhu Nagar where more than 900 patients were screened for eye ailments. A press release said nearly 190 patients were screened at Thiruvottiyur High Road and 143 glasses distributed. At Manali Pudhu Nagar, of the 740 screened, 322 received glasses and another 44 were referred for surgeries.

Disabled forum plea

The State Government has been asked to give two acres of land and free colour television sets to differently abled persons. In a memorandum submitted to the Social Welfare Minister at the Secretariat, the members of the Agni Welfare Trust of the Differently Abled appealed to the Government to consider issuing 10 kg of free rice for the disabled community as many among them lived in the below poverty line category. The members urged that jobs be provided to the disabled under C&D category. They also called for initiating action against officers in the Social Welfare Department who were working against the welfare of the disabled, Trust secretary K. Kumar stated in a press note issued here on Tuesday.
