Tech park fire report highlights lacunae

Staff Reporter

CHENNAI: Fire and Rescue Services authorities in Ashok Nagar on Tuesday submitted a report to higher authorities on the fire at a private technology park in Ekkaduthangal on Monday.

The authorities said the observations made by them after an inspection of the building where the fire was reported had been recorded in the letter. Besides the lack of fire fighting installations, lacunae in the building were also included.

A Fire Service officer said that before occupying high rise buildings, occupants should insist on installation of fire fighting facilities as well escape routes. Promoters have to obtain a certificate from the Fire and Rescue Services. This should be made mandatory to all high-rise buildings, the officer said.

A press release from the Khivraj Tech Park, where the fire was reported, said the blaze was a minor one. The damage was minimal, as fire fighting systems were in position.
