Scholarships for wards of ex-servicemen

The Ministry of Defence is calling for applications from children and widows of ex-servicemen (below the rank of officers) pursuing various professional courses for providing scholarships.

Unmarried girl candidates would get Rs. 1,500 per month while boys would be given Rs. 1,250 per month. Candidates should have scored a minimum of 60 per cent marks at the Intermediate level to be eligible. Wards and widows pursuing professional courses like engineering, medicine, MBA, MCA can also apply. Applications can be downloaded from www.dgrindia.com and can be submitted to the Kendriya Sainik Board. Details can be had from the Zilla Sainik Welfare Officer or Director Sainik Welfare.

IPE invites applications

The Institute of Public Enterprise, Osmania University, has invited applications from working executives qualified in ICET-2006 for admission into its MBA (part-time) programme. The application form and prospectus will be available at the Institute from July 20 onwards on all working days between 10 a.m. and 8 p.m. The last date for submission of the forms is August 19. UGC to conduct refresher course

The UGC-Academic Staff College, Osmania University is conducting a refresher course in Telugu from August 18 to September 7 for university and degree college lecturers. Temporary/contract teachers who have been teaching in degree colleges for at least two academic sessions are also eligible for participation. Arabic courses

The department of Arabic, Osmania University College of Arts and Social Sciences has invited applications for admissions into Arabic courses for the academic year 2006-07. The courses include a six-month certificate course in Arabic (proficiency), one-year junior diploma course in Arabic and a one-year senior diploma course in Arabic.Application forms can be had from the University Press and filled forms should be submitted along with the registration fee in the department of Arabic on or before August 7. Meet to discuss problems of tailors

Backward Classes Welfare Minister D. Srinivas will convene a meeting with representatives of Tailors' Association to identify the problems faced by those in the tailoring profession. Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy gave an assurance to this effect to a delegation of the Tailors' Association. led by G. Rudra Raju, chairman, AP State Health & Medical Infrastructure Corporation Limited which met him here on Tuesday. A. A. Narasimha Murthy, association president, was also present.
