`Cut down on biryani for better health'

IGP Tejdeep Kaur Menon gives tips to policemen at medical check-up camp

HYDERABAD: Relish Hyderabadi biryani, but beware of the fat entering your body, IGP (Welfare) Tejdeep Kaur-Menon told Hyderabad policemen on Tuesday. She was speaking at a free health check-cup camp organised for policemen by Kamineni-Wockhardt Hospital here. Earlier, policemen on bandobust duty were supplied `pulihora.'

"You are frequently enjoying the taste of the sought-after biryani but are oblivious to the fat content entering your body," she explained.

Not just biryani, but policemen should also avoid consuming liquor and gutkha keeping in view their image among people, the IGP said. Equally important is spending time with family members. Ms. Menon observed that most of the policemen mislead others saying higher-ups do not give weekly holidays like employees of other departments.

"Police duty is too demanding, but we too get holidays. Take your family out and that rejuvenates you," she said.

Apart from organising such health camps, police welfare wing has undertaken several other programmes like building a guesthouse `Sharanam' in Hyderabad for the benefit of patients and attendants coming here for better medical treatment.

An amount of Rs. 50 lakhs was allotted for repairing the `Athidhi Bhavan' built in Tirumala 23 years ago for providing accommodation to police personnel and their families visiting the temple town.
