Bangalore: The Karnataka Film Chambers of Commerce has decided to stop the screening of the Tamil film "Imsai Aarasan 23m Pulikesi".

The Kannada activists had earlier approached H.D. Gangaraju, president of the Karnataka Film Chambers of Commerce, and asked him to intervene in the matter.

Speaking to The Hindu on Tuesday, Mr. Gangaraju said that a few Kannada activists were displeased with the title of the movie.

"Pulikesi was a great monarch, who ruled over what is Karnataka and Tamil Nadu today. Activists felt that the movie title sullies the name of the king and demanded that the screening of the movie be stopped immediately," he said.

Mr. Gangaraju said that after consultation with the distributors, the film chamber decided to stop the screening of the film in the State.

Protest

The Kannada Implementation Board on Tuesday staged a protest against film producers and directors who use non-Kannada film titles, and increasing violence in films.

Protesters, mostly women, shouted slogans against film titles, which used Hindi, and English titles.

The protesters submitted a memorandum to H.D. Gangaraju, president of Karnataka Film Chambers and Commerce, who assured them that he would look into the matter.

The chamber vice-president, Sa.Ra. Govindu, said efforts would be made to avoid Hindi and English titles in Kannada movies.

R.A. Prasad, President of the Board said Kannada producers should focus on the quality of the films.
