KOCHI: Family life is the underlying theme of Japanese filmmaker Yasujiro Ozu's films. His films give us profound visions of family life. He examines the basic struggles of life, the cycle of birth and death and the tension between tradition and modernity. `An Autumn Afternoon,' (Samma no Aji), the last film of Ozu, is also not different from this genre. The Cochin Film Society is screening this film on Sunday, as part of its Archive Screening Programme conducted in association with the National Film Archives of India, Pune. Though the English title of the film is `An Autumn Afternoon,' the literal meaning of the Japanese title, `Samma no Aji,' is `The Taste of Mackerel.' The film will be screened at Savitha Theatre at 9.30 a.m.
