Five PHC staff suspended

Deputy Director orders their suspension finding PHC locked at 7 a.m.

VILLUPURAM : Five employees of the Primary Health Centre at Vikkiravandi,near here have been suspended for dereliction of duty on Wednesday.

Deputy Director for Health, Sargunam, ordered their suspension after he found the PHC locked at 7 a.m., when he went to inspect it. None of the staff turned up till 9.15 a.m. and, by then, eight patients were waiting for treatment. The patients complained to him that the staff were never punctual. The staff could not offer any valid reasons for being late. Those suspended are: drugs handler Murugu Annamalai, assistant nurse Uma Devi, laboratory assistant Sathya, worker David Raj and sanitary worker Bhuvaneswari.

Refuge camp

District Collector Ashish Chatterji inspected the refugee camp at Rayarpalayam Road on Tuesday in which 75 families, comprising 259 Sri Lankan Tamils, have been accommodated.
