Profile of Lt. Governor

Pondicherry: Mukut Mithi, the new Lt Governor of Pondicherry, was born on January 1, 1952 at Roing in the Lower Dibang Valley District of Arunachal Pradesh. He is a B.Sc graduate. He was elected to Arunachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly consecutively for six times from 1983 to 2004. He was a Minister of Arunachal Pradesh holding such portfolios as Forests, Tourism, Sports and Youth Affairs, Health and Family Welfare and also Veterinary departments before becoming the Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh between 1999 and 2003, according to an official communication.

Mr. Mithi had held the post of president of the State Committee of the Congress and was a permanent invitee to the Congress Working Committee.

Mr. Mithi is the youngest of all the incumbents, who had held the post of Lt Governor since Pondicherry became part of Indian Union in 1962 and has special interests in social service activities. He had travelled widely to several countries including France. His hobbies include reading and fishing.
