PRESENTING A SHAWL: Chief Minister N. Rangasamy greeting the new Lieutenant Governor Mukut Mithi at Raj Nivas in Pondicherry on Wednesday.
PONDICHERRY: The former Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister, Mukut Mithi, was sworn in as the 18th Lt. Governor of Pondicherry on Wednesday. Chief Judge of Pondicherry M. Chinnapandi administered the oath of office. The brief ceremony, at Raj Nivas here, was witnessed by Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Gegong Apang and his Cabinet colleagues, Tako Dabi and Takar Kipa, Deputy Speaker of the Arunachal Pradesh Assembly Takar Marde, working president of the Pradesh Congress Committee of that State Takam Sanjoy, besides several other delegates. Chief Minister N. Rangasamy and his Cabinet colleagues, Speaker of Pondicherry Assembly R. Radhakrishnan, Deputy Speaker A.V. Sreedharan, Members of Parliament V. Narayanasamy and M. Ramadoss, AICC secretary P. Sudhakar Reddy, Pondicherry Congress president P. Shanmugham, Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam State convener R.V. Janakiraman, Pondicherry Municipal Council chairperson Dr. B. Sridevi and a host of legislators, leaders of various political parties and officials participated. French Consul-General Michel Seguy and Vice-Chancellor of Pondicherry University A.K. Bhatnagar were also among those who greeted Mr. Mithi after he assumed charge. Mr. Mithi succeeds Lt.Gen. (retd.) M.M. Lakhera, who has been appointed Mizoram Governor. Earlier, Mr. Lakhera, who was Lt. Governor for two years, was seen off at Raj Nivas by the Chief Minister and his Cabinet colleagues, officials and legislators.
