Shubham Sharma, Nikhat Banu bag triple

HYDERABAD: Shubham Sharma of St. Paul's Table Tennis Academy and Nikhat Banu of Gujarati Seva Mandal picked a triple each in the AP Gujarati Seva Mandal State-ranking table tennis tournament here on Wednesday.

The results:

Men's singles: Final: Shubham Sharma (SPTTA) bt T. Arundhar (SCR) 11-8, 9-11, 10-12, 11-7, 11-8, 11-9.

Youth boys: Final: Shubham Sharma bt Krishna Kiriti (AWA) 12-10, 3-11 11-6, 11-7, 11-3. Semi-finals: Krishna Kiriti bt Karan Muktha 11-9, 13-11, 8-11, 11-8, 11-5; Shubham Sharma bt P. Vignay Reddy 11-5, 11-7, 11-6, 10-12, 11-13, 11-6.

MCH kabaddi

Municipal Corporation of Hyderabad will conduct the annual open kabaddi championship for `A'

division teams (men) from July 27 to 29. Entries close by July 25 and should be sent to Ilyiah or to B. Jagannath Swamy, tournament secretary, at MCH Victory Playground or to K. Jagdishwar Yadav, secretary of Hyderabad Kabaddi Association, Lal Bahadur Stadium.

Hari Prasad hogs limelight

V.N. Hari Prasad of Railway Mixed High School clocked 2:14.90 seconds to clinch the honours in the boys under-16 800 metres event of the Hyderabad District junior athletic meet at the Lal Bahadur Stadium here on Wednesday.

Selection trials

Selection trials for the Indian team to take part in the 10th SAARC carrom championship in Colombo were organised by Hyderabad Carrom Association, under the aegis of all-India Carrom Federation, at Fateh Maidan Indoor Stadium here.

The National players who took part in the trials were D. Ravinder Goud, Sashidharan, Yogesh Pardesi, Dilesh Khedekar and M. Natraj in men's section and P. Nirmala, Illavazhagi, Rashmi Kumari, S. Appoorwa in women's section with Ayesha failing to turn up.

B.K. Haranath, president of HCA, informed that the Indian team would be finalised very soon for the SAARC meet which is scheduled just before the SAF Games, also to be held in Colombo.

Maqbool hits 201

An unbeaten double century by Mirza Maqbool Baig (201 not out, 28 x 4) and Ahmed Shakeer's 110 (17x4) helped VST score an imposing 405 for two against Vimco in the `A' division (two-day) league cricket championship. In reply, Vimco was struggling at 85 for six.

The scores:

`A' division (three-day) league: MP Colts 191 and 199 (Danny Derek Prince 43, Rohit Sabharwal 45, T. Pavan Kumar four for 76) lost to SBH 352 for two decl. and 39 for three.

Ensconse 294 and 159 for six (Md. Imran 103 not out) drew with BDL 229.

SCRSA 220 and 155 for seven (A.G. Pradeep 60 not out, Pragyan Ojha four for 78) drew with Andhra Bank 256.

India Cements 248 and 261 for nine (M.P. Arjun 93 not out, Ashwin Yadav six for 104) drew with Evergreen 358 for nine decl.

`A' division (two-day) league: VST 405 for two (Mirza Maqbool Baig 201 not out, Ahmed Shakeer 110, Mohd. Asifuddin 47) vs Vimco 85 for six (Mushtaq 53).

Mega City 377 for nine (Neeraj Bist 127, Aneel Kaushik 65, Shanu Yadav 62 not out) vs EMCC.

State open chess
