NEW DELHI: Ninth seeded Abhijit Kunte shot into the lead with a perfect score following his fourth-round victory over 10th seeded Cuban International Master Fidel Corrrales in the Canadian Open chess tournament at Kitchener on Tuesday. Playing white in the Ruy Lopez game lasting 71 moves, Kunte forced his rival to resign by threatening to win the queen. Kunte now plays black against second seeded Ukrainian GM Alexander Moiseenko who defeated Rahul Shetty (3) in 42 moves. Kunte's citymates from Pune, Chandrashekhar Gokhale (3.5) and Swati Ghate (3) also registered wins. Gokhale defeated fellow IM Leonid Gerzhoy with white pieces in 38 moves. Swati battled it out for 68 moves before her extra bishop and pawn proved decisive against lesser-rated David Wang of Canada.
