NEW DELHI: Fourth seed Parul Goswami defeated Saisirin Borwornchok of Thailand 6-1, 7-5 to move into the pre-quarterfinals of the $10,000 ITF women's tennis tournament at Bangkok. Two other Indian girls, Vishika Chhetri and Oormila Ram were unable to clear the first round. Vishika lost to top seed Nudnida Luangnam of Thailand 6-2, 6-2 while Oormila went down 6-3, 6-2 to another Thai, Pichittra Thongdach. In doubles, Vishika and Parul beat Lisa Marshall of South Africa and Asha Nandakumar 6-2, 1-6, 6-2 in the pre-quarterfinals. In the $25,000 ITF women's tournament at Chongging, China, qualifier Tara Iyer lost 6-1, 6-1 to third seed Zhang Shuai of China in the first round. The Indian men had a good time in the doubles, as the fourth seeds Rohan Bopanna and Prakash Amritraj beat Kevin Kaiser and Pablo Pires De Al Mieda of the U.S. 6-3, 6-2. Harsh Mankad in partnership with Phill Stolt of the U.S. upset the top-seeded Jean-Francois Bachelot and Nicolas Tourte of France 4-6, 6-2, 13-11 in the doubles pre-quarterfinals of the $25,000 Challenger at Manchester. In the $10,000 ITF men's Futures tournament at Bucharest, Romania, third seed Divij Sharan and Bogdan Leonte of Romania overcame Alexandru Lazar and Razvan Lupsescu of Romania 6-3, 7-6 (3) in the first round.
