Islamabad: Officials of the Pakistan Rangers and the Border Security Force held their quarterly coordination meeting on the Pakistan side of the Wagah border checkpost on Wednesday. The BSF delegation head, A.K. Jain, told the official news agency Associated Press of Pakistan that the talks focussed on early repatriation of inadvertent crossers. The two sides earlier agreed to release such people within 24 hours. Illegal border crossings and infiltration also figured in the discussions, he said. The Pakistan Rangers brought up incidents of trans-border smuggling from the Indian side. Brigadier Qasir Khan Tareen, Deputy Director-General of the Pakistan Rangers (Punjab), who headed the other delegation, said allegations of cross-border terrorism were not valid as the control of the fence and lights on the border was with India. Mr. Jain said India had fully fenced the border in Punjab, but loopholes remained and were being addressed. The daylong meeting was part of a mutually agreed programme.
