ANANTAPUR: Telugu Desam Party has bagged the mandal parishad president and vice- president posts in six more mandals while the Congress secured three mandals in the elections held in the district on Wednesday. The election was postponed in one mandal. The TDP has won the posts in Gooty, Guntakal, Roddam, Penukonda, Singanamala and Kanaganapalli mandals and the Congress in Yellanuru, Dharmavaram Rural and Pamidi mandal. The election in Mudigubba mandal was postponed again due to lack of quorum.
Setback in Pamidi
TDP lost the MPP post of Pamidi to Congress in spite of having majority MPTCs, eight against 6 of the Congress, as one of its members defected to Congress. Luck favoured the Congress in the post decided by the toss of a coin. In Mudigubba mandal, where the Congress has 9 MPTCs against 8 of the TDP, the election was postponed for the second time due to lack of unanimity over the MPP post between two groups of the Congress. Efforts of the Congress leaders to settle the issue failed. After the Wednesday's elections to MPPs, the TDP has 33 MPPs in the district against 27 of the Congress in a total of 63 mandals. While one MPP was bagged by CPI, election was postponed in one mandal. Elections to MPTCs were not held in Bukkaraya Samudram mandal due to non-completion of their term.
