ICF downs HTA, enters quarterfinals

MADURAI: A goal by Satheeshkumar off a prolonged penalty corner after the hooter helped Integral Coach Factory, Chennai, defeat Hockey Talent Academy, Vadipati 3-2 and enter the quarterfinal of the 14th Rajamani-Kanagamani Ammal memorial trophy State-level hockey tournament organised by Reserve Line Spots Club here on Wednesday.

Others to enter the quarterfinals were host Reserve Line Sports Club, Thirunagar Hockey Club and GK Motors Hockey Club.

Results: Pre-quarterfinals: ICF, Chennai 3 (Vinoth 2, Satheeshkumar) bt Hockey Talent Academy, Vadipatti 2 (Saravanan, Rajapandi); Reserve Line Sports Club 4 (Rajagopal, Kathiravan, Sivabalan, Radhakrishnan) bt A.G.'s Office, Chennai 1 (Vinoth), GK Motors HC w/o Reserve Bank, Chennai; Thirunagar Hockey Club 3 (Manikandan, Rajesh, Kodipandian) bt Reserve Line Youth Club 1 (Manikandan).

Tuesday's results: GK Motors Hockey Club 3 (Ramesh, John Paul, Ramadoss) bt City Police, Chennai 1 (Manikandan); Reserve Line Sports Club 3 (Kalidas, Rajagopal, Kathiravan) bt TNEB, Chennai 2 (Ganeshmoorthy 2); Hockey Talent Academy, Vadipatti bt Port Trust SC, Chennai 6-5 in tie-breaker (full time 2-2).

TVS defeats Freak

TVS Club beat Freak Cricket Club by 53 runs in a Madurai District Cricket Association first division `A' zone league match here recently.

The scores: First division `A' zone: TVS Club 192 in 40.1 overs (Valamalai 46) bt Freak CC 139 in 37 overs.

`B' zone: Richards CC 198 for two in 39 overs (Ram Tittio 61) bt Spark Colts CC 155 in 33 overs. Super Kast CC 124 in 20 overs (Murugesan 58) lost to Victory CC 126 for two in 22.2 overs (Senthil 47).

Eleven Star CC 212 in 42.4 overs for Majestic Kids CC 114 in 31.1 overs (Suresh four for 36).

Second division: Oliva CC 167 for seven in 30 overs bt Blooming Eleven CC 120 in 22 overs (Deivanayagam four for 30).

Third division: Oliva CC 130 in 22 overs bt Kings CC 69 in 20 overs.

Ramesh advances

Ramesh of Railway Institute and Karthikeyan of Billiards Kingdom entered the quarterfinals of the city open snooker tournament defeating Gopinath of Billiards Kingdom 69-45, 83-65 and Y. Guthoose of Pot Black Centre 27-60, 52-22, 60-32 respectively in Madurai on Wednesday.

TN Police triumphs

At Tiruvarur: Tamil Nadu Police defeated Mathi Memorial Kabaddi Club (Vaduvur) 35-30 and won the title at the State-evel kbaddi tournament at Vaduvur on Wednesday. Sports Authority of India (Chennai) beat Madurai City Police 29-8 to clinch the third spot.

Indrajeeth of Mathi Memorial Kabaddi Club was adjudged the player of the tournament.

Big win for Madurai

At Ramanathapuram: Four goals by Sathyaseelan helped Madurai to a 11-0 victory over Kanyakumari in the State junior inter-District hockey championship here on Wednesday. In another match, Tuticorin posted an emphatic 7-0 win over Namakkal.

The results: Madurai 11 (Sathyaseelan 4, Kalidas 2, Balakrishnan, Nagendran, Prabu, Ramadoss, Veeramani) bt Kanyakumari 0; Tuticorin 7 (T. Samraj 3, B. St. Joseph's HS wins volleyball title

At Tiruchi: St. Joseph's High School (Pothamettupatti) won the volleyball and tennnikoit titles at the Tiruchi educational district level under-14 sports meet here on Wednesday.

The results: (all finals): Tennikoit: St. Joseph's HS bt Vignesh Sri Renga MHSS (Srirangam) 21-14, 21-6; Volleyball: St. Joseph's HS bt SCV HS (Thiruparaithurai) 25-18, 28-25, 25-11; Handball: St. James HSS (Palakurichi) bt UDV HSS (Tiruchi) 9-5; Kabaddi: Bharathi HS (Allur) bt Mukulathur HSS (Tiruverambur) 30-45.

Cricket trials

Tirunelveli trials

Trials for the selection of the Tirunelveli District under-15 and 17 teams to take part in the inter-District cricket tournaments will be held at ICRC turf ground at 8.30 a.m. on July 23.
