State aims to enroll 4.24-lakh children in schools; CM asks elected representatives to stay in villages for 10 days

JAIPUR: Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje has instructed her Cabinet colleagues and other elected representatives to stay in villages for at least 10 days during the "Shiksha Sambal'' (education support) campaign launched in Rajasthan on July 15. The drive aims at enrolling 4.24-lakh children in schools.

Ms. Raje said in a letter addressed to Ministers, MPs, MLAs and Zila Pramukhs on Wednesday that elected representatives, accompanied by Government officials, would go to villages and review the works taken up there as part of the campaign. The campaign will continue till September 5.

Ms. Raje said the Ministers would check the quality of food provided to schoolchildren under the midday meal scheme by "personally tasting'' it and promote public participation in the scheme. The progress of the drive will be monitored every fortnight with the Ministers submitting regular reports of inspection in this period.

The Cabinet members have been separately given the charge of the campaign in various districts.

Ms. Raje said the target had been set to enrol 2.12-lakh new children in the age group of 6 to 14 years in schools. Besides, 1.50-lakh dropouts will be re-associated with school education, while 62,000 children who have never got formal education will be admitted to schools.

Financial help under the "Aapki Beti'' (your daughter) scheme will be given to the girls of families living below the poverty line, whose mother or father or both of them have died. Ms. Raje pointed out that over 7,200 such girls were given the assistance last year.
