FLORAL TRIBUTES: The body of footballer V.P. Satyan at MSP Community Hall in Malappuram on Wednesday.
MALAPPURAM: The Malabar Special Police (MSP) bade farewell to former Indian football team captain V.P. Satyan, whose body was brought here on Wednesday afternoon. Satyan was run over by a train in Chennai on Tuesday. MSP deputy commandant U. Sharafali received the body, which arrived here at 1.30 p.m. The body was kept at MSP Community Hall for about an hour for the public and his former colleagues and friends to pay homage. Apart from Mr. Sharafali, those who paid their last respects to Satyan included MSP assistant commandant K.T. Chacko, footballers P.T. Mehaboob, C.M. Sudheer Kumar, Habeeb Rahman, Narcotic Cell Deputy Superintendent (DySp) Manohar Kumar, Special Branch Dy.SPs V. Aboobacker and Ibrahim, Malappuram municipal chairman Kiliyamannil Yakoob, industrialist Kiliyamannil Fazal, and Kerala Police association president K. Bhaskaran. The teachers and students of M.S.P. Higher Secondary School also paid their last respects to Satyan. In Palakkad, the members of Indian football team, football enthusiasts and others paid their last respect to V.P. Sathyan when his body, from Chennai enroute to Kannur, was taken through the town on Wednesday. The motorcade carrying the body of the Satyan was stopped for a few minutes at the Indira Gandhi Stadium in the town for the people to pay their respect to the great footballer. Members of the Indian football team Abdul Hakeem and Naushad paid homage to the veteran footballer at the stadium. District Football Association president Stanly James placed wreath on the body at the stadium. The motorcade was stopped for a few minutes at the Kerala Armed Police (KAP) camp at Muttikulangara near the town.
