L-G's anguish over waterlogging

NEW DELHI: Delhi Lieutenant-Governor B.L. Joshi has expressed anguish over the waterlogging problem in the Capital.

At a high-level meeting on Wednesday, he directed the Chief Secretary to take appropriate steps to ensure that Delhiites do not suffer from such predicament. He suggested that the agencies concerned take immediate and long-term measures to deal with the situation. Asking them to keep him updated on the developments, he also directed officials to fix responsibility for the lapses.

Book released

NEW DELHI: A book titled "East Asian Literatures: An Interface with India" was released at Japan Information Centre here on Wednesday. The book has been published on the basis of reports presented by 25 Indian, four Japanese, two Chinese and four Korean scholars at an international conference on "Literatures in East Asia: Trends and Developments in Japan, China and South Korea -- An Interface with India" in February last year.

It has been edited by P.A. George, Associate Professor with Jawaharlal Nehru University.

OPD opened

NEW DELHI: Rockland Hospital has opened an Out Patients' Department clinic at the Institute of Marketing and Management in the Qutab Institutional Area here.

Inaugurated on Wednesday by the Institute's executive president Jagjit Singh, the clinic will function on all weekdays from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. The hospital will also organise health check-up camps and health talks from time to time.

New programmes

NEW DELHI: The National Institute of Fashion Technology has introduced two new postgraduate programmes and 48 continuing education programmes this year.

The postgraduate programme on "Design in Fashion Space" deals with creative aspects of fashion including accessories, apparel and home furnishing, while the postgraduate course on enterprise management in fashion business is "a unique programme for the children of owners of fashion business houses".

Prison reforms

NEW DELHI: The Delhi prisons in collaboration with the Bureau of Police Research and Development (BPRD) held a workshop at Tihar Central Jail here on Wednesday to discuss the draft policy paper on prison reforms.

According to Tihar Law Officer Sunil Kumar Gupta, the participants discussed the modalities for involvement of NGOs in the reformative process in prisons and a feedback was taken from the prison staff about the needs of NGOs in jails.
